Jackson Nyange is a Kenyan wildlife conservationist from Kajire Village in Taita Taveta County, Kenya. Growing up near the Tsavo ecosystem gave him a deep appreciation for wildlife from an early age. As a primary school student, he joined the Wildlife Club, where his passion for conservation first began.
His commitment grew stronger after becoming a wildlife ranger in 2018.
During severe droughts, he witnessed heartbreaking scenes of elephants, giraffes and other wildlife walking many kilometres in search of water. Many entered villages where they destroyed crops, damaged property and sometimes injured or killed people.
Instead of watching the problem continue, Jackson decided to act.
Today he transports water directly to wildlife across the Tsavo ecosystem, helping thousands of animals survive drought while reducing human-wildlife conflict. His dedication has earned him the name The Elephant Man of Tsavo.
"Every drop of water saves a life. Every waterhole reduces conflict."
